THE ROLE OF THE FIRE MARSHAL (WARDEN)

THE ROLE OF THE FIRE MARSHAL (WARDEN)

The basic duty of a fire marshal (warden) is to ensure that people, and this includes employees, visitors and contractors get out of the building safely in the event of a fire. This is achieved (in most cases) by the fire marshal (warden) sweeping a designated area in a methodical manner, ideally this sweep should not take more than a minute.

A fire marshal (warden) may also be required to assist the responsible person with other fire safety measures, such as:

1. Inspections of work areas, processes etc
2. Reporting faults
3. Monitoring fire safety
4. Assisting with the fire risk assessment
5. Implementing fire safety procedures
6. Giving fire safety briefings

Fire marshals (wardens) MUST receive appropriate training and refresher training.
